We remember… September 11, 2008

Today marks the 7th year anniversary of September 11.
I’m sure you remember where you were and what you were doing that fateful day when cowards hijacked airplanes and flew them into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. Time seem to have stood still, and as the nation watched the events unfold, for a while, we trully became the United States of America.
We felt the loss and the pain, and everyone rallied together to help those in need. For a while we put aside our differences, we stretched out our hand, we laid down our pride, we went to church, some for the very first time… America had been awaken. Seven years later, the embers have died, the dust has settled, and we’re back to “business as usual”.
This year’s memorial falls on an election year, and like the days following collapse of the Twin Towers, we are facing another fork in the road. Unfortunately it’s been said that the events of September 11 have been “politicized”, and as the campaigns heat up, we are bombarded by messages “change” and “reform”.
Regardless of which party you lean towards, lets not forget the events of September 11… the day America for once, was united… not against “terrorist”, but against apathy toward each other. For once, we really cared for our fellow man.
As we remember those who lost their lives seven years ago today, let us also remember those who have sacrificed their lives by serving our country overseas… the brave men and women who are fighting to preserve our freedom. Let’s not trivialize their sacrifice in this ”unpopular war”. Let’s get down on our knees, humble ourselves before God and ask Him to help us make the right decision this coming November. The great king Nebuchadnezzar puts it well when he said,
At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever.
His dominion is an eternal dominion;
his kingdom endures from generation to generation.All the peoples of the earth
are regarded as nothing.
He does as he pleases
with the powers of heaven
and the peoples of the earth.
No one can hold back his hand
or say to him: “What have you done?”At the same time that my sanity was restored, my honor and splendor were returned to me for the glory of my kingdom. My advisers and nobles sought me out, and I was restored to my throne and became even greater than before. Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble.(Daniel 4:34-35)
